Information Technology & Communications

Rural Greenbrier County is linked to the global Internet and a variety of broadband options are available through cable companies and telephone DSL connections (check with the local cable/telephone companies for available options). Charter Communications offers broadband cable, while Verizon and Fibernet offer DSL in certain locations. Additional options include satellite broadband, and leased lines. All schools and libraries have Internet access and The Greenbrier Valley Airport has wireless access.

The I-64 High Technology Corridor Project is committed to enhancing the telecommunications and technological resources of the region. Hybrid solutions such as wireless and fiber networks are being planned to link communities and locations that currently have no access to broadband.

There is one daily newspaper (West Virginia Daily News) and one weekly paper (Mountain Messenger) published in Greenbrier County. The region has cable television service and many residents utilize satellite dishes. The county is served by local and regional radio stations as well as TV stations from the Charleston and Beckley/Bluefield markets, as well as Roanoke, VA.

Verizon is the principal land-line phone service provider; cellular service is available but, due to the mountainous terrain, there are portions of the county where service is limited.
